Karma
Although Karma is not a
Belgian, we feel that his story is important to be told. He is now owned
by Jackie Dougall ( who owns Belgians ;-) ) in Florida who worked for days
trying to get help for this injured dog. A big huge thank you to everyone
who wrote letters to try and get changes made at this facility!
Here are the links to Karma's
story as it appeared in the Citrus Chronicle:

Here is Karma's story
told in Jackie's words:

Hello
Friends,
Largely do to your efforts, I was able to adopt the German shepherd who
was hit by the car and not given medical treatment for five days from Citrus
County (FL) Animal Control on Fri.
I have named him Karma.
I really didn't know Karma. I spent 90 mins with him right after he
was hit by the car...all of that time he was in shock. I visited him 3 of the 5
days he was at the shelter. Of course that was less than 5 mins at a time and
just observing him, no interaction. On day 5...my friend Karen and I were there
to get him from the shelter at 8:00 am and take him right to the veterinarian by
9:00 am.
He was evaluated, received pain medications, had x-rays taken, and
a stabilizing bandage placed on his leg. X-rays show a broken front leg.
I am so glad the doctor allowed him to come home
and adjust to the family, rather than being in a cage at the hospital for the
weekend. Karma is adjusting just fine.
He is a sweet dog. He watches me like a hawk. He is gentle and very
affectionate. Every time he sees me he wags his tail. He loves to lay in front
of the TV. He is so cute, he cocks his head and really listens and watches
what is going on. He was very interested in the program Law and Order last
night:) He is a shepherd you know.
I don't know how to thank you all for the letters you wrote and
concern you showed for Karma and the situation at animal control. Your emails
and phone calls to me gave power to my voice.
I hope this will happen soon not only for the animals but the staff. I also feel
that without the letters all of you, there would not be the urgency in making
those changes.
To those of you who have made donations toward his costly
surgery...a BIG thank you. To those of you who said you would help with anything
...even financially...hint:) The quote I got on the first surgery is a base fee
of $1,000. His initial visit was $354.00. One of the reporters asked if it
he is worth it. I said yes, every penny of it. I am reminded of the that each
time I look at him.
Look at the difference in him. First picture taken at 8:30 Fri morning, next
7:30 pm Fri, and the one of him sitting was last night, 24 hrs after he was
released from animal control and home from the vet. I am sure not only the vet
care...but the amount of hugs he has received made the difference:)
People say how lucky he is I found him. I feel he found me and I am the lucky
one.
With deepest
appreciation,
Jackie Dougall and Karma, a very special friend
every day is a gift...receive it with eagerness.

Findlay
Findlay came to us from our
local shelter. Although we were only a foster home, we were the forth home
she had lived in (in less than a year!). Findlay did find her forever
home! She now shares her home with another dog and a cat and because her
name sounded to much like her new buddy's, she has a new name, Foster. She
is very much loved and as you can see, she looks VERY happy! Thank you to
Linda and Ken for giving Findlay a chance!
